Oktoberfest has arrived in the Peak District.

When you think of Oktoberfest, you think of crisp, clean, golden beer, full steins and long sessions in the beer hall. So, for our latest release, we took inspiration from the tradition and put our own Peak District spin on it.

Designed for the first golden pint of autumn and the one that follows, Volksbier brings together classic German festival character with the modern Buxton Brewery approach.

Dan joined Buxton Brewery earlier this year, but not as a brewer. Dan is part of our warehouse team, he says he’s been ‘properly’ home-brewing for the past three years. But his interest in brewing started much earlier. As a youngster, Dan would lend a hand to his grandad, brewing his go-to Geordie bitter which Dan fondly describes as “rocket fuel.”

Fast forward to today, and Dan was bringing his own Festbier samples into work. The brew team took notice.

They saw an opportunity to bring Dan’s recipe to life on a much bigger scale, inviting him to submit it for production.

What started as around 50 litres of homebrew is now 3,500 litres in our tanks.

Not bad for a recipe brewed at home. It’s a story that feels very Buxton: great beer ideas can come from anywhere, and beer pedigree runs right through the brewery.

What is Volksbier?
