Buxton Brewery x Bustler Food Market welcome a new collaborative Taproom in the heart of Derby

Posted: 13.05.26

We’re thrilled to announce that Buxton Brewery will be the independent brewery behind Bustler’s new taproom concept, Duke’s, at its new St James Yard development in Derby city centre, with plans to serve exclusive beers available nowhere else.

In a unique move, we’ll introduce small-batch beers brewed on our forthcoming pilot kit, with each one-off creation available only at Trackside, Tap House, Sock & Buskin in Buxton and Duke’s in Derby.

The dedicated taproom will be located in a building that Bustler has recently taken on, backing directly onto the main St James Yard space. As one of the UK’s pioneering indie beer producers, we’re excited to bring our signature range of beers, specials and small-brew exclusives to the city.

At launch, Duke’s is expected to feature around eight keg lines, three cask lines and a rotating selection of cans, with the flexibility to expand the offer in response to demand. Crucially, the venue will be treated as a true extension of Buxton Brewery’s existing sites, with the same core range, seasonal specials and meticulous approach to brewing and service.

The partnership marks a significant addition to the St James Yard development, which aims to create a modern, independent high street combining food, drink and social spaces in the heart of Derby.

Olivia Pritchard, Managing Director of Bustler, said:

“We’re really excited to be working with Buxton Brewery on the taproom. They’re one of the most respected independent breweries in the UK and bring a huge amount of credibility, creativity and experience to the project.

Duke’s will be a key part of the overall destination, adding another layer to what we’re building at St James Yard and giving people even more reason to spend time there.”

Dom Metcalfe, our Managing Director, said:

“What really drew us to Bustler and the St James Yard development is the shared vision. We’re both focused on creating places where people can come together over great beer, great food and great company.

“Derby is a fantastic beer city with a real appreciation for both traditional and modern styles, so it feels incredibly important for us to have a proper presence here.

“The taproom will be treated exactly like our bars in Buxton, with the same range, the same standards and the same attention to detail. We want people to walk in and feel like they’re experiencing a genuine Buxton Brewery taproom.”

Looking ahead, we’re also planning to host beer masterclasses and events within the taproom’s upstairs Events space, as well as potential brewery tours at our site, connecting Derby with our Buxton home.

Bustler’s St James Yard development will feature around 20 shipping containers across two levels, bringing together independent food traders, bars, retail and creative businesses alongside indoor and outdoor social areas. The project is designed to transform an underused city centre site into a vibrant new destination, contributing to the ongoing regeneration of the area.
